WWW Wednesday

Hello, sweet peas!

How are you today? I’m weary and wary and I just want everything to go back to normal. A normal where there are no terror attacks in my country and no lockdowns and where all this pressure is off my chest. 2020 is really a hell of a year.

Oh, well. Let’s talk about something nice and with something nice I mean books. Let’s talk about the WWW Wednesday hosted by Sam @ Taking on a world of words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson

33832945. sy475

All 12-year-old Marinka wants is a friend. A real friend. Not like her house with chicken legs. Sure, the house can play games like tag and hide-and-seek, but Marinka longs for a human companion. Someone she can talk to and share secrets with.
But that’s tough when your grandmother is a Yaga, a guardian who guides the dead into the afterlife. It’s even harder when you live in a house that wanders all over the world . . . carrying you with it. Even worse, Marinka is being trained to be a Yaga. That means no school, no parties–and no playmates that stick around for more than a day.
So when Marinka stumbles across the chance to make a real friend, she breaks all the rules . . . with devastating consequences. Her beloved grandmother mysteriously disappears, and it’s up to Marinka to find her–even if it means making a dangerous journey to the afterlife.

I just started this one and I’m already in love with this world. The house that can play tag and grows the outside world in Marinka’s room for her to explore? But I think I would feel lonely too if I could never meet any people or even leave the boundaries of the house. I’m so excited to read some more tonight.

The Nowhere Emporium by Ross MacKenzie

24471045

When the mysterious Nowhere Emporium arrives in Glasgow, orphan Daniel Holmes stumbles upon it quite by accident. Before long, the ‘shop from nowhere’ — and its owner, Mr Silver — draw Daniel into a breathtaking world of magic and enchantment. Recruited as Mr Silver’s apprentice, Daniel learns the secrets of the Emporium’s vast labyrinth of passageways and rooms — rooms that contain wonders beyond anything Daniel has ever imagined. But when Mr Silver disappears, and a shadow from the past threatens everything, the Emporium and all its wonders begin to crumble. Can Daniel save his home, and his new friends, before the Nowhere Emporium is destroyed forever?

This one is a reread for me. I remember that it was a magical story, whimsical but also thrilling and I’m happy to read this book again. After that I even might read the next two books back to back.

Boy Under Water by Adam Baron

36628542. sy475

Cymbeline (yes, really!) has never been swimming – not ever, not once – so he’s a bit nervous at the prospect of his first school swimming lesson ever. But how hard could it be? He’s Googled front crawl and he’s found his dad’s old pair of trunks. He’s totally ready for this. But he’s not ready for an accident at the pool to reveal a family mystery that turns his life completely upside down. Only Cym and his friends can solve it because, as usual, the grown-ups aren’t telling them anything. For the answers you really need, sometimes you have to go deep…

It sounds funny and maybe magical, right? Well, funny it is at times. But also tragic, heartwrenching and, most of all, con-tempo-rary.

Seven Crowns by E.V. Everest

53474078. sy475

Sixteen-year-old Ana is a waitress, foster kid, and liar. She might also be the sole heir to a crown on another planet. A crown she never asked for or even wanted. One year after her mom’s death, Ana discovers her mom’s biggest secret– she was a political refugee from a planet called Bellaton. Ana’s family was one of seven that ruled before they were picked off one by one. Now, with assassins after her, Ana could be next. With the help of a dazzling array of friends and enemies, Ana must discover her magical “gift”… or risk being named an imposter.

I would be lying if I said that I didn’t choose this book for his gorgeous cover and the fact that it was on Kindle unlimited. But it also sounds kinda interesting and I wanna give it a try.

What are you reading at the moment? What did you recently finish? And what do you wanna read next?

    1. Actually, I haven’t but I have The Girl who speaks bear on my tbr. I found I like Sophie Anderson’s writing style but I didn’t quite like the story of the house with chicken legs too much.
