Monthly Mini Reviews – let’s get this party started!

Hi, guys!

I have decided to shamelessly steal something from dear Orangutan Librarian – which is the monthly mini reviews. I have read so many books since I have started this blog and reviewed only so few of them. And now I saw this post and thought, hey, I could do it monthly too! I mean, I have done mini-reviews before but never as a collected post at the end of the month. You know what I mean?

Okay, just to write this down properly:

I’m gonna do a new thing called Monthly Mini Reviews where I will write some mini-reviews – who would have guessed – of books that I won’t review in full detail, but still want to talk about for a bit. I’m just gonna keep it small and short and link the book titles with Goodreads, so I don’t have to bother with the synopsis and you can still go and put it on your shelves if you’re intrigued by my review. What do you think?

Lease on love by Falon Ballard

I was curious about this book, since I love a good Roommates-to-lovers book. And hey, the premise was great enough but in the end this book just couldn’t deliver.
The biggest part of it all was the main character, Sadie. I just couldn’t get on with her. Sadie was rude and self-centered, all under the guise of being aloof and also because of mental abuse in her childhood. Always apologising for ones your mistakes does not excuse bad behaviour if you never change anything about said bad behaviour.
Her love interest Jack was made up as the perfect boyfriend with a secret that had to be uncovered but unfortunately, he didn’t seem to have any personality whatsoever.
I was just forcing myself through the book and I should have dnf’ed. I can’t really think of anything good to say about it besides that it was a rather fast read and it had a nice flow.

Love at first spite by Anna E. Collins

This book was neither good nor bad. I was not completely sure about the two main characters and got kind of bored with them over time. I did, however, enjoy the revenge part of the story since there were also parts that were a little built like a mystery. (Not one that was hard to crack but I enjoyed it anyway.) While I did not care too much about the romance, I still liked the flow of the story, the side characters and now really want two Great Danes in my life.

Escape Room by Christopher Edge

I am a sucker for MG novels that feature riddles, death traps and plucky kids that need to solve them if they want to stay alive. It’s always a battle of wits and intuition and it’s thrilling and dangerous and keeps me at the edge of my seat. And boy, Christopher Edge deliveres. I have read books by him before and he seems to follow a pattern that works well for me. The story starts out normal and soon spirals into weird and then into dangerous. There is always hinted that something is not quite right that niggles at you. Escape Room was very fast paced and thrilling, glueing me to the book. I loved the characters and the setting and the big reveal at the end that was teased beforehand but wasn’t for me to figure out yet. I kind of wish it was longer just so I could enjoy it some more but still, I loved reading it so much, no matter how abstract or confusing or it got.

So, what do you think? Are those bitesized reviews okay? Have you read any of these books?
