New Releases for March

Hello, sweet peas!

Look. I know I’m usually an advocate for buying LESS books. I know that I should. I know that our world is not gonna get better if we all just define ourselves by what we HAVE instead of what we are and what’s in us.
That doesn’t mean I’m immune to all the new and shiny books that are released every month and for some of them I’m just so excited. I mean, that’s somebody’s baby. Somebody worked day and night to write these books and is probably insanely proud of it. And I, for one, am super excited to read some of those. So let’s take a look, okay?

Wilderlore – The Accidental Apprentice by Amanda Foody

49087613

The last thing Barclay Thorne ever wanted was an adventure.

Thankfully, as an apprentice to the town’s mushroom farmer, Barclay need only work hard and follow the rules to one day become the head mushroom farmer himself. No danger required. But then Barclay accidentally breaks his town’s most sacred rule: never ever EVER stray into the Woods, for within the Woods lurk vicious magical Beasts. To Barclay’s horror, he faces a fate far worse than being eaten: he unwittingly bonds with a Beast and is run out of town by an angry mob. Determined to break this bond and return home, Barclay journeys to find the mysterious town of Lore Keepers, people who have also bonded with Beasts and share their powers. But after making new friends, entering a dangerous apprenticeship exam, and even facing the legendary Beast of the Woods, Barclay must make a difficult choice: return to the home and rules he’s always known, or embrace the adventure awaiting him.

I think this book might just have pretty much everything I love. Reluctant hero, beasts, magical bonds, secret schools, mushrooms – I’m so pumped! And can we talk about this absolute gorgeous cover? And this premise? And everything? Hot damn, I’m so hyped!!

Where there are ghosts, Cassidy Blake follows … unless it’s the other way around? Cass thinks she might have this ghost-hunting thing down. After all, she and her ghost best friend, Jacob, have survived two haunted cities while travelling for her parents’ TV show. But nothing can prepare Cass for New Orleans, which wears all of its hauntings on its sleeve. In a city of ghost tours and tombs, raucous music and all kinds of magic, Cass could get lost in all the colourful, grisly local legends. And the city’s biggest surprise is a foe Cass never expected to face: a servant of Death itself. Cass takes on her most dangerous challenge yet..

I’m so glad that this book is finally out! I was devastated when they pushed the release date back. And hey, Waterstones has already sent me an email that they have shipped it! Which means that it’s here soon. (I have no idea how that is with the new taxes and fees since I ordered that book about a year ago but I hope it’s not too much.) I have already a buddy read scheduled for this one and I can’t wait for it to arrive and to dive right in and see the characters again and go to New Orleans!

Golden Gate by James Ponti

After thwarting a notorious villain at an eco-summit in Paris, the City Spies are gearing up for their next mission. Operating out of a base in Scotland, this secret team of young agents working for the British Secret Intelligence Service’s MI6 division have honed their unique skills, such as sleight of hand, breaking and entering, observation, and explosives. All of these allow them to go places in the world of espionage where adults can’t. Fourteen-year-old Sydney is a surfer and a rebel from Bondi Beach, Australia. She’s also a field ops specialist for the City Spies. Sydney is excited to learn that she’ll be going undercover on the marine research vessel the Sylvia Earle. But things don’t go exactly as planned, and while Sydney does find herself in the spotlight, it’s not in the way she was hoping. Meanwhile, there’s been some new intel regarding a potential mole within the organization, offering the spies a lead that takes them to San Francisco, California. But as they investigate a spy who died at the Botanical Gardens, they discover that they are also being investigated. And soon, they’re caught up in an adventure filled with rogue missions and double agents!

I really liked the first book in the series – City Spies. I actually thought that this book was already released but apparently not! It’s maybe not overly important right now, but I will definitely read it sometime this year.

Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

39897752

It’s been five years since Wendy and her two brothers went missing in the woods, but when the town’s children start to disappear, the questions surrounding her brothers’ mysterious circumstances are brought back into light. Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road, and gets pulled into the mystery haunting the town. Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, claims that if they don’t do something, the missing children will meet the same fate as her brothers. In order to find them and rescue the missing kids, Wendy must confront what’s waiting for her in the woods.

Look. I have not read Cemetry Boys and I don’t know if I want to. But this one sounds so great and while I don’t really like the sourcematerial of Peter Pan, I really love Peter Pan retellings. I can’t wait to see where this book takes us. Also, the cover is gorgeous. Not that that should be any incentive.

The House that wasn’t there by Elana K. Arnold

45282013. sy475

Alder has always lived in his cozy little house in Southern California. And for as long as he can remember, the old, reliable, comforting walnut tree has stood between his house and the one next door. That is, until a new family—with a particularly annoying girl his age—moves into the neighboring house and, without warning, cuts it down. Oak doesn’t understand why her family had to move to Southern California. She has to attend a new school, find new friends, and live in a new house that isn’t even ready—her mother had to cut down a tree on their property line in order to make room for a second floor. And now a strange boy next door won’t stop staring at her, like she did something wrong moving here in the first place. As Oak and Alder start school together, they can’t imagine ever becoming friends. But the two of them soon discover a series of connections between them—mysterious, possibly even magical puzzles they can’t put together. At least not without each other’s help.

I love the premise of this story. I’m all for reluctant friends and I love the idea of a story that is about spaces that have been created by things that are no longer there. (I kinda hope that they plant a new tree at the end because I’m all for symbolism. ;))

I’ve seen so many people talking about Bridge of Souls but I’ve not even read the other books in the series yet. I really want to but by the time I get around to it I bet everyone has forgotten about it!

    • I absolutely love the series and want to read the book really soon. Maybe you can get them from the library or as an audio book. 🙂 But no matter when you read them, they are still good stories and I’m sure you won’t regret reading them when you do. 🙂

  2. There are so many good books coming out this month! I totally forgot about half of them until recently. I hope I can get them from the library because I don’t think I should buy like 5 books at once!

    • I know exactly what you mean! I should not buy any books either. The problem with that is just that our library is still closed and not that great with new books anyway.
