Six for Sunday // Books from your TBR that you predict will be 5* (or more. Probably more.)

Straight off the bat, I’m never quite sure about my star ratings.

I tend to ignore those little pointy things and just let my review speak for itself. I mean, star ratings means different things for everybody anyway, right? A three star review might be glowing for one reader and might be abyssmal for the next. Right?

Although I think everybody will recognize the five-star-rating. It’s the all-caps ILOVEDTHISBOOKANDHAVETOSHOUTITFROMTHEROOFTOPS rating. Looking through my Goodreads tbr shelf was still a little more difficult than I thought.

Six for Sunday is a weekly meme created by Steph @ A little but a lot. It’s the first time I’m taking part and coincidentally I am posting this on a Monday. Because of course I do.

Eleven-year-old Casper Tock hates risks, is allergic to adventures and shudders at the thought of unpredictable events. So, it comes as a nasty shock to him when he accidentally stumbles into Rumblestar, an Unmapped Kingdom full of magical beasts.
All Casper wants is to find a way home, but Rumblestar is in trouble. An evil harpy called Morg is sending her followers, the Midnights, into the kingdom to wreak havoc and pave the way for her to steal the Unmapped magic for herself. But Casper cannot turn a blind eye because the future of his own world, he discovers, is bound up with that of the Unmapped Kingdoms.
And so, together with Utterly Thankless, a girl who hates rules and is allergic to behaving, and her miniature dragon, Arlo, Casper embarks upon an adventure full of cloud giants, storm ogres and drizzle hags. Can he, Utterly and Arlo, the unlikeliest of heroes, save the Unmapped Kingdoms and our world from the clutches of Morg and her Midnights?

I loved the prequel Everdark and I’m pretty sure I will love Rumblestar too. I am definitely in love with Abi Elphinstone’s writing.

Stella has been living behind the magic of the forest for most of her life. Lonely, she enrolls at the local school, and as she begins to make friends, she discovers that she is even more different than she thought. But as autumn turns to magical winter, Stella realizes that uncovering her own family secret is the only way to release the forest from the grip of a dark and old magic.

I’m actually a little disappointed in myself that I haven’t read that book yet. Amy Wilson ranks really, really high on my list of favorite Middlegrade authors and I basically vacuumed up all her other books.

After angering his father Zeus, the god Apollo is cast down from Olympus. Weak and disorientated, he lands in New York City as a regular teenage boy. Now, without his godly powers, the four-thousand-year-old deity must learn to survive in the modern world until he can somehow find a way to regain Zeus’s favour. But Apollo has many enemies—gods, monsters and mortals who would love to see the former Olympian permanently destroyed. Apollo needs help, and he can think of only one place to go… an enclave of modern demigods known as Camp Half-Blood.

I am actually looking forward to this books. I just have to finish the Heroes of Olympus series first.

Iris was born deaf, but she’s never let that define her; after all, it’s the only life she’s ever known. And until recently she wasn’t even very lonely, because her grandparents are both deaf, too. But Grandpa has just died and Grandma’s not the same without him. The only place Iris really feels at home anymore is in her electronics workshop where she loves taking apart antique radios. Then, during a science lesson about sound waves, Iris finds out about a whale who is unable to communicate with other whales. The lonely whale awakens something in Iris. She’s determined to show him that someone in the world knows he’s there.

I just have a feeling about this book. Not only does it look beautiful on my shelf, it also sounds amazing.

Seventeen-year-old Aderyn (“Ryn”) only cares about two things: her family, and her family’s graveyard. And right now, both are in dire straits. Since the death of their parents, Ryn and her siblings have been scraping together a meager existence as gravediggers in the remote village of Colbren, which sits at the foot of a harsh and deadly mountain range that was once home to the fae. The problem with being a gravedigger in Colbren, though, is that the dead don’t always stay dead. The risen corpses are known as “bone houses,” and legend says that they’re the result of a decades-old curse. When Ellis, an apprentice mapmaker with a mysterious past, arrives in town, the bone houses attack with new ferocity. What is it that draws them near? And more importantly, how can they be stopped for good?

I’m actually not too sure about this one but I have already taken a look and the writing style really pleases me. I hope the content does too.

The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile is shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway has been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful, a girl who had everything – until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalls an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: “I’d like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.” Yet in this exotic setting, nothing is ever quite what it seems…

Okay, I think that I will give five thousand stars to pretty much everything Agatha Christie is a given. I’m also looking forward to read this with a friend, so that’s a plus too.

Okay, I’m late to the party but that doesn’t mean that we can still talk! Have you read any of these books? What books on your tbr are surely five star reads?

    • I’m so looking forward to reading it. I hope it will go more into the direction of Percy Jackson than Heroes of Olympus. 🙂

  1. I still need to read Everdark, but I have a feeling I’m going to love the whole series! I still have yet to pick up Rick Riordan, but I’m sure I’ll love his books as much as everyone. I’m just not sure which series to start with. xD And Song for a Whale looks great! I can’t wait to see what you think of it.

    • I’m currently reading Rumblestar and I’m so in love. So in love, Sammie! I can’t wait for Jungledrop. And I will probably read her other series as well. And all her books she will ever write.
Rick Riordan’s books are a lifetime commitment, lol. I read the first when it came out back in 2005(?) I think? They are pretty bingeworthy, so you might factor in more time for those ones – she said, while conveniently ignoring that she hasn’t finished the Heroes of Olympus series in two years. 🤣

      • I can’t even tell you how many times people have recommended the author. xD I’m trying to convince my library to get at least *something* of hers in, but it’s a little hard to get international books in. They’re releasing them in the US now, with the first one called Casper Tock and the Everdark Wings. So I’m making the sell for that, at the very least. xD

Okay, blocking out a chunk of time for a bingeworthy series, it is. She nodded in understanding, glancing at all the Discworld books she still has to read, despite it also being a bingeworthy series. xD
